Springfield is located 165 miles south of Kansas City, 215 miles southwest of St Louis Mo, and 45 miles north of Branson. Bordered by interstate 44 on the North, highway 60 on the South, highway 55 to the East and highway 160 to the West, it's easy to see how it earned the nickname “Queen City,” as a major hub of culture and commerce in the Ozarks. Located on the Springfield Plateau, which ranges from nearly level to rolling hills, it truly has everything you need—a plentiful and growing job market, great schools, world-class health care and all the entertainment and cultural trappings of a big city. From live entertainment and sporting events (and home of the Springfield Cardinals) to creative art exhibits, Springfield offers a vibrant and welcoming culture for all ages, with a symphony, ballet and opera, as well as cultural events throughout the year, including Artsfest on the first weekend in May.
Springfield is also a regional center of medical care, with the two largest hospitals being the largest employers in the city, as well as the largest fully accredited K-12 school district in Missouri, several colleges, universities, and technical schools. On average, Springfield's annual growth percentage is more than double that of the state of Missouri and 62% higher than the nation's, and renovated older buildings and theaters in the downtown area are causing a resurgence of mixed-use buildings such as lofts, office space, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, boutiques, and music venues.
Yet outdoor activities abound in Springfield, with hiking and biking galore, including over 50 miles of trails on the Greenway to the West, and mountain biking trails to the North, as well as 10 city parks, and 10 different golf courses. Other natural attractions include the Discovery Center, Dickerson Park Zoo, Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium, the Fantastic Caverns, a Japanese Garden, a Butterfly House, the Botanical Center, and the Queen City Garden, a major hub of ornamental flowers and the wildlife it attracts through the seasons.
Residential variety in Springfield flourishes as well, with an assortment of inviting neighborhoods such as Southern Hills, with its unique architecture, 3 lakes, and location near the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, and Old Ivy, home of the Farmers Market of the Ozarks, and Twin Oaks Country Club, golf course, and golf cart community. Other communities of note include the manicured Emerald Park, with easy access to highway 65, Brentwood South, near Battlefield Mall with over 125 stores, and Rountree, featuring charming and historic homes, with easy access to Missouri State University, just to name a few.
Springfield is also the home of the Headquarters for Bass Pro Shop, an ice skating rink, and even a castle, demonstrating the comprehensive diversity of this city, and it's ability to cater to any possible inclination or requirement, clearly making it the “Queen City".
